My Story

FROM CORPORATE TO COUNTRY…

My name is Kim and I am a Rushville mom.  (Rushville, Illinois, that is!)  Let me clarify that by saying I wasn’t born and raised here, but I got here as fast as I could!  (I think I saw that on a bumper sticker once!)

I am originally from a small town in Mississippi – a town about the same size as Rushville actually.  So I’m not native to Rushville, but I am definitely a small town girl!  My husband, on the other hand, was born and raised in Rushville and that is what brought me here.  The beginning to our story, however, took place far from this small town.

My husband and I met, got married and started our family in Houston, Texas.  I moved to Houston for my first job out of law school and practiced law for several years before transitioning into corporate human resources.  My husband moved to Houston for his job in personal training.  Did I mention that we lived there with about 3 million other people?

Houston had a lot to offer and we enjoyed our life there but when we had our daughter in 2006 we knew it was time to get out of the rat race and back to a small town.  We wanted to raise her the same way we had both been raised - around family, in a town where there are more fields than parking lots, nestled in the comfort of small town traditions and values.  I had also reached a pivotal point in my life.  I knew it was time to re-prioritize.  Time to take a good long look at where my career path had taken me.  Somewhere along that journey I lost the “real me.”  The me that wanted more than anything to be a faithful Christian, a loving mom and a devoted wife, BEFORE anything else.  I had to find that person again, away from the craziness of a very demanding career that, while lucrative, had become my “identity” and left me feeling empty.  I wanted, and was ready for, SIMPLICITY.

Naturally, moving from the big city to a small town comes with drastic career and lifestyle changes. It did not come without sacrifice but we knew in the end it would all be worth it.  We moved here in October of 2007, just in time to celebrate our daughter’s 1st birthday.  We have never looked back!  I have been blessed to have the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom since our move and that has been well worth every sacrifice.

So that is what brings me here.  I am embracing every day and loving the simplicity (and quiet) of country life.  God has given me this opportunity to reflect on my life and work on those areas that have been neglected.  It is a daily challenge and I often feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of it.  But it is a blessing and the rewards are great.  This blog is a product of my efforts to reflect, grow, embrace the good, have fun and share positive and helpful things with my friends, and anyone else that may happen across it.  The subjects may be sporadic but I expect they will be a reflection of the things I am working on/learning in my own life.  That is what makes it meaningful!

Kim, this a great idea, very interesting, and has a lot of valuable information. It will be nice to be able to share recipes and get you help on the coupons. As for your journey to come to the small town country life of Rushville I could not be happier to have my family living here, and get to share in watching my beautiful granddaughter grow up and make special memories with you all.
